Another ISPY Swap

Hello swappers.
I was going through my stash and seems I've accumulated a lot of new I Spy fabric so I'm ready to host another swap.

***This will be a short turn around so only US swappers this time****

Fabric will be due to me by Nov. 8 (that's a little over 2 weeks)
I will send shipping details once we have the 18 swappers signed up.

Here are the details to consider:

The details:

  • The first 18 people to sign up here are in. Just leave a comment and your email on this post, and make sure I have a way to contact you.
  • Each person will send (20) 4" squares from each of 10 novelty fabrics to me by Nov 8. I'll have some details on how to sort them, and I will also need for you to send a stamped envelope so I can mail your squares back to you.
  • You will receive (200) 4" novelty squares (enough for 2 small I-SPY quilts or 1 large one) We're hoping to send packages out by Nov 15th.
A few thoughts and guidelines on the fabrics...
  • Please measure carefully and use a rotary cutter to cut your fabric
  • When picking fabric please use good quality. Joanns or local quilt store are fine. If you can see through it or the fabric is really thin, then the fabric cannot be used for this swap.
  • Many fabric stores have a dedicated novelty fabric section. But generally these
are fabrics with objects... animals, food, people, etc. It may help to think in terms of things you could use for the I-SPY game. (I spy the letter G, I spy a sushi roll, I spy a monkey eating a banana, etc....)
  • In order to avoid duplicate patterns, go on a mission for some really obscure, hard to find prints that aren't available at the chain retailers.
  • No team prints or licenses characters (SpongeBob, Dora, etc.) So for example, a print with basketballs would be great, but a Dallas Mavericks print is not. Or a print with ducks wearing hats is great, but Donald Duck is not.
  • The object in the fabric should be distinguishable in a 3.5 x 3.5 square, which will be its finished size. Keep this in mind when choosing fabrics. Either go with smaller prints, or be ready to fussy-cut.
  • You can get (20) 4" squares out of a 1/4 yard cut of fabric or out of a fat quarter. So you'll need to purchase at least 2 1/2 yards of fabric.
What is an I-SPY quilt? It's a quilt made with novelty fabrics. And it's a wonderful toy to play I-SPY with. Great for traveling with kids or rest time or when you need something to occupy little ones. How to play? Take turns spotting something in the quilt, maybe "I spy, with my little eye, a frog in a tutu!" And the first person to point out the tutu frog on the quilt goes next, and so on. Hours and hours of fun!
If you want to participate, leave a comment on this post!

If you are not one of the first 18 people to comment but would like to be an alternate, please go ahead and comment. I'll contact you if someone drops out.

Glass etching on Pyrex

Etch to your hearts content!

Almost anything made of glass you can etch with any design
It's so simple

I've wanted to try this since seeing it on a blog a while back.
Searching the local craft stores came up with Amour Etch but I was still missing the masking film (contact vinyl to cut the stencil from and have the ability to reposition)
I found the perfect contact vinyl at Etchworld.com (click here)
I got both clear and opaque (only $4.50 for 3 yds)

here's what I did

1. Picked out a pattern to put on my pie plate
I used a quilt book and found a pattern

2. Cut out the pattern on contact vinyl

3. Put it on my pie plate

4. Applied the etch cream
I let it sit for 7 min

5. Wiped, washed and peeled the stencil off
I threw away the stencil, though I could have saved and reused

Done!

This is so simple I think everything made of glass will be etched soon!

5:30 tired

So Flynn decided to wake up at 5:30 am today with additional screaming and crying all morning till his nap.
Needless to say I'm tired.
Can't decide if he has an ear infection, teeth coming in, or just plain grumpy.

Here's how the tree pillow is coming.

Starting to free motion quilt it today.
I love this site for ideas on patterns

I think I'm going with Day 15 Flowing glass.
This is going to be a for a friend's birthday gift.

Happy quilting!

Irritated....

First thank you to everyone in swap #2 for getting their fabric in on time.

I try to be a patient and understanding person and I feel awful that swap #1 hasn't been sent.
I've contacted and received word back from the missing fabric but my mailbox continues to be empty. Hmm...

I plan on replacing the missing letters and sending the a=z sets asap.

On top of it, I'm waiting for fabric from a swap I send in May.
I guess what goes around comes around?

A is for ants
G is for glasses or guitars
H is for horse
O is for owls
Q is for quilt
U is for umbrella
V is for veggies
X is for x-ray
Y is for yarn

Keep them coming!

I'm waiting to hear back from the last two alternates so we can get it going.
You'll hear from me soon.

Blogger down

So the blogger has been down for hte last 24 hours.
It seems many of the comments have been erased (hopefully they will come back).
I'm trying to fill in the holes for the swap.
I believe the spots that are left are
N Y and Z

I may need helping finding everyone's contact again if the comments don't come back.
Please be sure to leave your email address (especially if it's not listed through your blogger account).

ABC Swap closed-should we do #2?

Thanks for all the interest.
The 1st swap is full.
I'm thinking of doing a 2nd ABC swap (if we can get enough people)
If you're interested leave a comment.
We may need people to take 2 letters. Please let me know if you'd be willing to do 2 letters.

ABC I Spy Swap

I've been waiting to host this and decided I'm ready to jump into hosting another swap.

Here's the details.
I'd like to have the fabric mailed to me by June 6th. That should give us lots of time to shop. If I get everyone's fabric sooner, I'll send it then.

This is an ABC I-Spy swap.
Each person picks a letter, find a fabric for that letter (ie c-Cat, L-lizard, I-ice cream, A-apple etc).
Cut 26 5" squares (I know it's more yardage than 4" but then we get better pictures)
Send them to me
Once all 26 letters have been sent to me, I'll send you back a complete A-Z set.
Make a quilt, make a letter book...just have fun!
Leave a comment about what letter you want, block preference and your email!!

You are welcome to sign up for more than one letter.

Here's what we have so far-
(PS. If you're willing to take the tricky letter of X or Q, I'll add 20 extra I-Spy 4" squares from my stash to your alphabet package. I think there is xray animal fabric called xray animals, it has dentist animals holding up the xray of themselves. )

Life!

So it's been a while.
Flynn is currently cutting 4 teeth, finishing meds for a double ear infection and has been cleared of pink eye!
Needless to say this week was crazy, last night was the 1st night he didn't wake up at all. Every other nights it's 2-3 times a night.
Can't wait to see what tonight brings!!

More I Spy swaps

For all those who love I spy swaps, check out http://fabrikatedesigns.com/
She's hosting a larger 40 person swap and she's from CT too!

Flynn's naps today have been 3 so far, all being short, nothing like his usual 2 1/2 hour afternoon nap. But somehow I've managed to get some sewing done as well as cleaning.

The xmas tree is coming down (looking for any last ornaments that were missed) and then the house will start to be "de-xmased." My husband would leave it up all year if he could!
